The power to generate value

With about 34 GW of installed generation capacity, we are among the largest global power generators. Thanks to our high proportion of hydroelectric and gas plants, our generation portfolio is especially environmentally friendly. Our highly flexible and adjustable power plants ensure a sufficient and reliable power supply. They produce more than just electricity, but also generate steam and compressed air for industry and heat for thousands of households.

Our core generation markets in Europe are Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and the Netherlands. We also operate one gas-fired power plant in Hungary. In Russia we operate five power plants in key industrial regions (Central Russia, Urals, and Western Siberia); they provide about five percent of the country’s total energy needs.

A tradition of quality

Our expertise comes from more than a century of real-world experience in power generation and from a passion for innovation and continual efficiency improvement. This expertise and heritage drive our many programs dedicated to continually improving our plants’ performance and cost structure. And we conduct systematic knowledge management so that we can share best practices among our existing plants and draw on this storehouse of knowledge when we develop and build new ones.

We manage a complex portfolio of power stations

We have extensive experience managing large, complex portfolios of generation assets and continually optimizing these assets both physically (by increasing their output, enabling them to co-fire biomass, and reducing their emissions) and through our dispatch and trading activities.

We group our assets into fleets by fuel type: hydro, coal, gas, and nuclear. Our fleet approach enables us to conduct centralized procurement, disseminate best practices, diversify risk, and achieve greater standardization, all of which markedly reduce our costs.
